2021 Fantasy Football Tiered Quarterback Rankings - JOSHBREGZ
Updated as of September 3rd
Below are my QB rankings for the upcoming 2021 NFL season. These are based on 12-team leagues with standard scoring format (4 pt TD, 1pt 25 pass yards, -2 INT).
I've organized players by rank and separated into tiers. Beside each tier I provide a snippet of what you can anticipate from each player in that tier.
The notes section is to get some brief insight on that players situation and skillset.

| THE QB1 TIER | NOTES | These are my 4 guys I feel comfortable taking with a legit shot at being the QB1 on the year. Worth the early-mid round investment | |||
| Patrick Mahomes (380) | Frontrunner to be TD leader, improved O line, Avg. defense will keep them passing. Top 2 arm talent in the game. Expecting TD regression from a guy of his talent isn't needed. Can put up 40+ any given year | ||||
| Josh Allen (370) | Big arm, lackluster run game, depth at receiver positions, dual threat QB. Middle of the pack defense. Front runner to be pass attempts leader | ||||
| Aaron Rodgers (365) * | Front runner to be TD leader, lots of offensive weapons. Tougher schedule this year (5th most difficult). Offensive line is less experienced this season. No Bakhtiari for first 8 weeks. Top 2 arm talent in the game. Adams-Rodgers is a cheat code and I expect MVS to be a league winner this season. The TDs will continue to flow this season. | ||||
| Kyler Murray (360) | Dual threat QB, pass friendly offense with high floor. Bolstered DEF + added RB depth. Not bullish on Kingsbury's coaching chops to get the offensive efficiency needed to pin him as the QB1 | ||||
| ELITE QB TIER | NOTES | QBs that round out the top 10 who have a shot at out performing their ADP. They have an opportunity to crack the top 5 | |||
| Russell Wilson * | Most underappreciated QB in the league, can make all the throws/carry any team. Two big time pass options, has pretty good rushing upside. A true set and forget QB. Improved pass rush should lead to better DEF than last year | ||||
| Ryan Tannehill | Ultra efficient offense, brought in Julio to pair with AJ Brown makes one of the premier duos in the league. Henry and run first approach still limits his league low pass attempts. I anticipate that number to increase | ||||
| Dak Prescott * | Smart QB, consistently a top 7 QB. Lot's of pass options, Kellen Moore runs up-tempo passing offense. Has some rushing upside. Brought in Dan Quinn to fix the DEF. Shouldn't be as poor as last season | ||||
| Tom Brady | Old faithful. Threw 40 TDs at 43. Another year to marinate in the Bucs system with trio of receivers and TE depth. Deepest offensive talent in the NFL. Smart, can still throw it. Age is still a factor. Safe pick at ADP | ||||
| Lamar Jackson x | Best rushing QB in the league, should be forced to throw more as I anticipate a down year in Baltimore. Limited skillset as a pure passer and has the least talented offensive weapons around him out of all QBs in this tier. TD upside holds him back | ||||
| Matthew Stafford | Rock solid QB with a big time arm on a team with a handful of good passing options. Genius coach in McVay with an elite defense. Offensive efficiency keeps him as an attractive QB1 option. No rushing upside and elite defense keeps them in game scripts where running is viable. | ||||
| Justin Herbert x | The new kid on the block. Big arm who isn't afraid to take shots. New coach in Staley with Joe Lombardi OC. Hunter Henry departure. Keenan Allen, Ekeler, and Mike Williams make for some solid depth. Decision making is still a concern limiting upside to RZ trips and dozen+ interceptions | ||||
| REST OF THE PACK | NOTES | If you draft QBs late and play the waiver wire, these are your guys! They have a chance to start most of your weeks in fantasy with a good shot at cracking the top 12. | |||
| Matt Ryan * | Falcons went from one of the tougher schedules last season to one of the easiest this year. Loss of Julio should be negated to some extent with uber talented Pitts, Ridley, and Russell Gage rounding out their trio of viable options. Not expecting them to score a lot of points but he is a fantastic late round savvy pick if you intend on filling out your starting QB slot last. | ||||
| Jalen Hurts x | Average 12 rushes per game in his 3 game window. Eagles will be a dumpster fire with limited depth on the offense, should have to play from behind early and often. TD upside is very limited and could be benched for Gardner at some point. | ||||
| Joe Burrow | How does he bounce back from his ACL? Does the OL improve? They have a plethora of depth at the pass catching position. Another late round QB who could sneak into the fringe QB1 spot if things finally 'click' for this Bengals team. | ||||
| Ben Roethlisberger * | If he plays a full season, and their huge question mark that is their OL makes even marginal improves from their poor squad in 2020, he's a great value pick given he's basically going in the final rounds/undrafted in leagues. Little known fact: he threw more TDs than Herbert and tied with Tannehill, and Watson. Najee is the real deal, and they have 3 great options at the WR position. TE rookie Pat Freiermuth could also surprise. Wouldn't be surprised if Ben makes an appearance into the top 10 if the OL can hold blocks for longer than 2 seconds. Also, did he actually lose weight or just shave the beard? | ||||
| Baker Mayfield | Proved he deserves to be a starting QB last year. Apart of one of the most talented rosters in the NFL. OBJ back, Landry, Hooper, Njoku, Chubb, Hunt, the list goes on. 2nd year Donovan Peoples Jones should add to the mix this season as well as a downfield and RZ target. Run heavy offense will still go through Chubb and Hunt. Other guys offer more pass heavy upside. | ||||
| PRIORITY STASHES | NOTES | These are my primary options to look for as my QB depth. They are wildcards that have the environment or skillset to vastly outperform their ADP as a viable spot starter. | |||
| Sam Darnold * | Does he revive his career in Carolina? Most talent he's been around. Matt Rhule set Teddy of for success. I think Darnold has some juice we haven't seen realized yet. CMC, DJ Moore, Robby Anderson, and two young guns in Dan Arnold and Terrace Marshall Jr make for an intriguing sleeper offense. Priority stash for me. | ||||
| Jimmy Garoppolo | Basically can get him for free. Injuries have plagued this team for a couple seasons now. A QB on a Kyle Shanahan offense will always have upside. I believe in Shanahan more than I do in Jimmy. He's flashed promise at times | ||||
| Justin Fields | Rookie QBs are ultimately an unknown but he finds himself on a roster set for some early success. Respectable defense, solid run game with a couple options at receiver with Allen Robinson and Darnell Mooney. His potential hinges on how often he scrambles for 1st downs and the occasional rushing TD. A viable BYE week candidate I'll keep close tabs on. | ||||
| Mac Jones |
So far, he's looked like a pro! Will start the entire season with departure of Cam. Lots of unknowns with offensive weapons, lacks rushing upside. But they invested heavily $$$ in that regard. A rock solid offensive line that I anticipate good things from the run game. Should be a very balanced offense and their dual TE scheme should make for a rookie QB friendly system. Another priority BYE week candidate to follow. |
